Veiga da Princesa is an Albariño wine that emerged as a personal venture that began in 2002 when the opportunity arose to purchase a small plot from the Creciente (Pontevedra) town hall. We were impressed by the quality of the grapes on said plot and decided to gradually purchase the surrounding properties until reaching the current 180,000 m².
As a reference to the property structure in Galicia, the current estate consisted of more than 300 small plots, purchased from more than 70 different owners, a clear reflection of the Galician emigrant tradition. This purchase process lasted two years, and in 2004, the vineyard began to be planted with the Albariño variety, choosing a novel trellis system for vine training that year. The choice of this system was made based on the characteristics of the soil and climate in our region, “El Condado do Tea,” where the distance from the sea (approximately 60 km) allows us to avoid Atlantic mists and achieve greater natural ventilation in the vineyard and bunches, as well as greater sun exposure. This results in lower acidity and greater fruitiness in our wines.
The result, Veiga da Princesa is a fresh Albariño, with a good balance between alcohol content and acidity, and a full-bodied palate with the pronounced stone fruit notes typical of great Albariños.
The grapes are harvested manually in small 15 kg boxes and immediately transported to the winery in refrigerated transport, where they undergo manual selection, a process prior to pressing and subsequent fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The fine lees are then removed at the end of fermentation for a period of approximately five months, at which point they are bottled.
